Attractive places in Andalusia
The Alhambra Palace in Granada must not be missed, with its Arab palace & romantic gardens, at 90 km from Gualchos, & from there it is only 40 km to Mulhacen at 3640m it is the highest peak in mainland Spain in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
At less than 30km there are also other attractive trips such as:
MOTRIL: a small town of approximately 60 000 inhabitants, where there is a superstore, a municipal market every day, & once a week, a street market for clothes, vegetables & fruit etc. There is also a tourist office, a cinema & a little 19 century theatre.
The town is 2km inland from the port & beaches.
A picturesque town set on a hill topped with a Moorish castle. There is a golf course, “los Mariscos” right next to the beach.

In all of these towns there are attractive tapas bars, markets selling fish & meat, fruit & vegetables as well as street markets.
An experience which should not be missed is a visit to the Alpujarra , the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, with their typical Andalusian villages, where one can buy excellent presents of local craftwork, and where they cure hams, such as the famous “Jamon Serrano”.
